Lesson 51. यण् सन्धिः
We have been dealing with the अ/आ so far. The rest of the swara-s can't wait to be discussed as well.
These are the rules to follow:
| 1 | इ/ई | followed by |
any other swara but fo इ/ई |
= |
इ/ई changing to य् |
| 2 | उ/ऊ | followed by |
any other swara but for उ/ऊ |
= | उ/ऊ changing to व् |
| 3 | ऋ/ॠ | followed by |
any other swara but for ऋ/ॠ |
= | ऋ/ॠ changing to र् |
| 4 | लृ/ॡ | followed by |
any other swara but for लृ/ॡ |
= | लृ/ॡchanging to ल् |
Then the changed swara of the first word gets added to the swara of the next word AGAIN to form a new letter.
Here are examples for each of them:
1. प्रति + एकम्
प्रत् + य् + एकम् = प्रत्येकम्
2. मनु+ अन्तरम्
मन् + व् + अन्तरम् = मन्वन्तरम्
3. पितृ + इच्छा
पित् + र् + इच्छा = पित्रिच्छा
4. घस्लृ + आदेशः
घस् + ल् + आदेशः = घस्लादेशः
प्रत् + य् + एकम् = प्रत्येकम्
2. मनु+ अन्तरम्
मन् + व् + अन्तरम् = मन्वन्तरम्
3. पितृ + इच्छा
पित् + र् + इच्छा = पित्रिच्छा
4. घस्लृ + आदेशः
घस् + ल् + आदेशः = घस्लादेशः
